Elphaba Repetition Analysis

Words: 271
Pages: 2

The author uses repetition, both all at once and throughout the book. This repetition helps to demonstrate the theme that Elphaba was influenced into evil by her surroundings. On page 382, this quote is stated, “Daily [her father’s] habits of loathing and self-loathing cripple her. Daily she loves him back because she knows no other way.” The repetition of the word “daily” helps to drive home the fact that Elphaba was burdened and hurt more and more every day and did nothing relating to the matter. This constant abuse would most cause Elphaba to carry emotional baggage. Next, the author uses repetition in sections throughout the story. In each of the following quotes, Elphaba is being described or addressed by her father; “the baby is damaged.”
