In Pinner, Middlesex, England on March 25th, 1947, Reginale Kenneth Dwight was born to Stanley and Sheila Dwight. Little did they know then that their eldest son would soon become the world-renowned musical sensation, Elton John. Elton John lived with his grandparents until he was six years old, and his parents finally married. Growing up, Elton John had been surrounded by music. His father was a trumpet player in the Bob Miller Band. Once his mother brought home rock records by artists like Elvis Presley and Bill Haley & His Comets, he become attached to rock and roll. Throughout his instruction, Elton John’s musical ear and ability to mirror new melodies was astonishing to his teachers. He went to Pinner Wood Junior School, Reddiford School and Pinner County Grammar School. But at age seventeen, Elton John dropped out of school to chase a music career. Despite his father’s attempts at redirecting John’s career path to something more orthodox, Elton John craved the wild costumes and actions associated with a musical career. In 1962, he started his first band with some friends called Bluesology. Soon enough, the band was touring with R&B acts, giving Elton some of the first publicity he would know. Five years after Bluesology was formed, Elton John worked for the New Musiscal Express magazine and later became a manager for Liberty Records. It was through this job that Elton John met Bernie Taupin who would further his musical career. Taupin and John started a partnership. Their first song was called “Scarecrow”. This was the first time that Elton John started using his stage name that earned him fame.
