Embryonic stem cells contain great potential to positively impact humans and the growth of the medical field. Stem cells are defined as cells that exist in undifferentiated state, and transform into differing tissue types depending on what the cells surrounding them are. There are many different types of stem cells that obtain the abilities to repair many types of human tissue. But, there is only one type of stem cell that can guarantee revitalization of all or any type of skin tissue. Which introduces the embryonic stem cell. A study, led by Dr. Richard Burt from the Northwestern University Feinberg school of Medicine, had reports that a stem cell procedure “not only seems to prevent neurological progression, but also appears to reverse neurological …show more content…
Since the definition of ESC in short means the cell does not have a true function yet, all the genes included in the stem cells have the prospective to become other types of cells. How stem cells work to regenerate other tissues is by being placed onto skin cells, muscle cells, and other cells that serve specific functions in the body. An example used to easily explain how this may work is from the University of Madison at Wisconsin. Using a group of mice that were genetically deficient of myelin, the researchers injected the embryonic cells into their spines. Right away the cells sensed their spines were deficient of myelin and began to coat to spine with new myelin. Since this experiment, others have been performed similar to this one and also resulted in success. In this case the experiment was to test the possibility of an alternate cure for Multiple …show more content…
So researchers are constantly finding out new things these stem cells can heal or cure. Including, but not limited to most cancers, blood diseases, bone marrow diseases, inherited immune system disorders, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, Alzheimer’s Disease, Lou Gherig’s Disease, and Hodgkin’s Disease. With growing amounts of diseases everyday scientists make it a top priority to continue research to try to grow the cure rates simultaneously. It is in scientists and medical workers job titles to always be learning and saving lives of others no matter what. So it is bound that the government and educated people with careers in health science will have to meet in the middle one
