Do you know someone that’s been diagnosed with cancer, or diabetes? How about a cardiovascular disease, or Parkinson’s disease? Maybe even someone that was born with a birth defect, or someone that suffers brain damage due to some sort of accident. Life for these people, as you may know, is more complicated than it is for us, but it doesn’t have to be. Embryonic stem cell research is our best chance to find cures and treatments for some of today’s most serious conditions, all we need is government support and funding. There has been a lot of controversy surrounding embryonic stem cell research, but with the current guidelines for such research in place, the possible benefits to society far outweigh the ethical concerns. Scientists can now begin their research to help find cures for ailments such as diabetes, heart disease, birth defects, and so much more. With that being said, cardiovascular disease is not only the leading cause of death globally, but is also the leading cause of death here in America. Statistics show that the number of Americans suffering from heart disease continues to rise. Here are some statistics concerning cardiovascular disease:
1. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death globally, accounting for 17.3 million deaths per year. This number is expected to grow to more than 23.6 million by 2030.
2. Nearly 787,000 people in the U.S. died from heart disease in 2011. That is about 1 in every 3 deaths in America.
3. About 2,150 Americans die each day from heart disease; that is about 1 every 40 seconds.
4. About 85.6 million Americans are living with some form of cardiovascular disease of the after-effects of
