Entering the emergency room for the first time, I could still vividly remember the chaos of the scene, with patients on the brink of their existence, relying on doctors to stabilize them. It is for situations like this I want to be prepared. As a trauma entered, the entire environment of the emergency room shifted as they prepared for what was to come. From start to finish, there is no goal other than to save the patient, and physicians always have to think on their mind. I find myself to be one to work better in these intense situations, in which each moment is so crucial. What I find most fascinating about medicine is how physicians obtain knowledge that so few people in the world possess. In their hands is the power to prevent death, and …show more content…
Learning how to read a MRI scan or getting to watch an ultrasound had made me realize how diverse medicine was. Each scan was different and would be an indicator of a different problem. Spending hours talking to patients in nursing homes and hospitals, I understood that I was meant for a field that required constant interaction with others. Each person had a different story, and I genuinely enjoyed being able to listen to each person’s life and the perspectives they hold. I have the opportunity to form an unique relationship with each patient and have someone who is putting all their faith into you. I could still remember how intrigued I was watching my first surgery that lasted several hours on a hand. It was a fairly simple procedure so it was my test to see if I was truly interested in medicine, and surprisingly enough, my attention did not divert even once. Even when I was assigned to taking vital signs or cleaning rooms, I enjoyed the feeling of always doing something regardless of the difficulty of the task. Being someone that is very patient, I realized that I could handle the slow and steadiness required. Each step was methodical and taken with extreme precision, and it was interesting to understand how the process unfolded.Ever since taking my first health science class, I have become fascinated with diseases, curious to know their causes and cures.
