Has your vision gone blurry? I wonder why or how? Sight is a gift that you have to treasure for a long time. Emily Dickinson demonstrates her two poems explaining them in two totally different perspectives in her journey during her lifetime. Sight isn’t just about losing your physical eyesight, it can also be about encountering difficulties in order to continue a journey towards a certain goal or vision in life. Sight can also be defined in a metaphorical level and it can go the same with darkness. Sight can be a metaphor of dreams, achievements, life, imagination, and clarity. When losing sight, darkness can overcome which can be a metaphor for loneliness, depression, and loss.

In the poem, “Before I Got My Eye Put Out”, The speaker shows us the beauty in what people see, not just the beauty of what they see everyday and not what they see with their eyes literally. Far beyond that, it’s the beauty that captures their eye that creates an image in their minds. The speaker seems to enjoy having sight. The speaker says that people who walk towards the light stay and are familiar with the same routine, which they are stuck in that obstacle and are not willing to conquer it. However, the speaker says that those who are brave go forth in the darkness, walking into obstacles, making it to the road and are able to see their way towards success. In the fourth and last stanza, it shows to those who are willing to walk and deal with the obstacles that stand in their way in going towards the darkness, they will be able to see and continue on as to those who will take the path towards the light.
