How are these techniques being used today to help revive the pottery industry in Stoke on Trent?
The ceramic business in the United Kingdom has been diminishing over the modern years. In the 1970s, there were approximately 200 ceramic factories and these have decreased to less than 30 in the recent years, mainly because of globalisation-it is cheaper to produce ceramics in elsewhere now. Despite this decline, a small number of local potteries are still operating successfully in both the specialist and mass produced markets. Emma Bridgewater is an example of local potteries which still operate successfully despite the decline. Emma Bridgewater produced most of her products by adopting to the methods that was recognised by Josiah Wedgwood. In this essay, I will elaborate on the techniques that are being applied by Emma Bridgewater to achieve a great deal in the business.

The showrooms displayed highly appealing products because this increase the reputation of the shop and cultivate customers’ taste for fine ceramics. Furthermore, the Duke of York visited Emma Bridgewater’s pottery factory in Hanley and this is a great way to advertise the product (YouTube 2012). This is an excellent method of product placement because this is the first place that the Duke of York visited after his arrival at Stoke on Trent and this lifts the impression of Emma Bridgewater in the eyes of customers.
