The program I attended was Emotions Anonymous 12-step recovery the works with those individuals experiencing anxiety, grief, depression, anger, low self-esteem, and other emotional difficulties. The group is open to anyone of age, race, sexual orientation, cultural diversity, economic status and applies the 12 steps for alcohol anonymous; in addition, EA is based on the 12 traditions, 12 concepts, 12 promises and 12 slogans, which are read before meetings. Individuals within the group share a common problem working toward helping each other and themselves to heal and recover. Through self-disclosure, they learn they are not alone and that others may not share the same problems but are all experiencing emotions that need to be expressed. As a spiritual program, there is an emphasis on a higher power. Experience has shown the EA program works equally well for those with or without religious beliefs or affiliations. My initial contact was Kevin K. who oversees the program per our conversation that evening he informed me that he would not be able to attend. I introduced myself as a student to Nate who was placing the literature on the table and he welcomed me letting me know that he would ask the group if I they mind if I observed. It is modeled after Alcoholic Anonymous 12 step program and serenity prayer. The meeting opened with appointment of an individual accepting the opportunity of running the group. Collective leadership made the decisions, with each member having the opportunity to participate in the number of tenets passed out. Even though one member is chosen each week to facilitate, decisions are unanimous. It felt awkward as an outsider, but I imagine the group may have felt some type of way
