In the short story The Scarlet Ibis the narrator struggle with emotions concerning his disabled brother and family. The narrator finds is younger disabled brother who is unable to walk intolerable. The narrator believes it to be annoying and embarrassing. So, he sets a time frame to teach his brother, Doodle, to walk. After many days the goal of being able to stand is accomplished and soon Doodle is able to walk on his own. The boys reveal the long held secret to their parents. Their parents are so touched, their son might have a chance at normalcy.
