When looking at our current healthcare model, I believe that one of the most significant issues we face is the need to address emotive caring. Given the structure of our healthcare system, practitioners of all types are under pressure to deliver premier quality care to an increasingly large number of patients in an often artificially limited, short amount of time. With these time constraints, nurses, physicians and other healthcare providers are placed in a position of prioritizing tasks based upon what is most essential to a patient's physical health; often leaving emotive caring last on the list; if not entirely forgotten. Such an approach often results in individualized emotive care being foregone. Many individuals, such as myself, aspire to become a nurse as an avenue through which to provide outstanding care to those in need of help. This help is seen by me to offer superior physical care, along with the "soft" skills such as emotive caring so critical to the quality of the patient's healthcare experience. Many nurses value having the ability to provide emotive care as an import aspect of their professional self. Like me, many doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers view have outstanding "soft" skills as an important aspect of being a healthcare provider. If society continues to emphasize a healthcare model that restricts a nurse's ability to combine an increasingly knowledgeable background of physical medical skills, with "soft" skills such as emotive caring, then not only does job satisfaction decline, but patient care suffers. As with the delivering of any product or service to a customer, it is important that the entire customer experience is pleasant thereby creating goodwill between the service provider and customer. Through being cognizant of the importance of healthcare's "soft" skills, along with the primary product of providing physical care, a customer's total healthcare experience will improve. Further, the patient will receive a better product and healthcare solution. It is important for all individuals of a health care team to emphasize emotive caring regardless of time restrictions and the pressures to maintain cost controls and transition patients out of a given healthcare environment. It is only when the passion to deliver the best care possible embodies using scientific background knowledge in combination with other "soft" skill sets, do I believe that patients are receiving the top level of care our health care system is able to
