Empathy is a human emotion that evolves. It can be used to adapt to any situation due to the different types of empathy. It is based on other human emotions, the environment and human interactions. Humans continuously change their moods throughout the day, are constantly on the move, and have regular social interactions every day. This creates, endless, random amounts of combinations that can constitute to any outcome, which is why empathy is needed. In my case, one day the combination did not present a favorable outcome.
In Ronald E. Riggio’s article he speaks of how there are three different types of empathy used, the first is “cognitive” empathy or otherwise “perspective-thinking,” this empathy is used to put yourself in a position to see things from another person’s point of view. Cognitive empathy is what I

When my friend MK asked me what I thought about her boyfriend of three months, I simply told her, “he has no ambition, he’s irresponsible and he may cheat on you.” Coincidentally, her new boyfriend was also a close friend of mine, which is why I told her how I truly felt about him. After I said this she walked away from me that day and made full use of her infamous silent treatment. A skill I thought she would never use on me and one I found lasted for days.
The second type of empathy Riggio mentions is, “personal distress,” which Riggio explains is, “literally feeling another's emotions.” When I thought about this, I tried to think about how I use personal distress with those around me.
