The book starts off with a girl named Kahlen and her wealthy, white family are passengers on is hit by siren song, she was rescued from drowning by the ocean., Kahlen’s desperate prayers for life are answered—by the Ocean. Three sirens explain the deal: Kahlen will live for 100 years as a siren, serving the Ocean by singing humans to their deaths, and then go free; if she refuses the deal, she dies.80 years Kahlen grieves about the lives she takes while loving the Ocean as a mother. Kahlen and the other sirens work together to keep the ocean at bay and keep themselves alive by singing when they have to. I've always loved the mythology-type stories, and this one is by far one of the best. The love between Akinli and Kahlen is absolutely beautiful and breathtaking. I love how Kahlen risks her life just to be with him, and she would've done anything to keep him safe. I love how Akinli accepts her for who she is even though he believes she is mute, and it makes their love story even more captivating. I also like the fact that the antagonist in the story is none other than the Ocean, Kahlen's closest thing to a mother. Also, I liked the siren mythology.
