Masaan means crematorium and the story revolves around a crematorium. The story is set in the spiritual and holy city of Banaras. There are two parallel stories that run together and finally intersect. First is where Devi is caught by the police for an undesignated crime yet the policeman compels Devi and her father to pay him an amount to conceal the matter. At the same time Devi is trying to overcome the devastating demise of her lover. The second story is about Deepak whose father works at crematorium and belongs to the lower order of the caste system. He falls in love with an upper caste girl. They both fret over the circumstances they might face because of the caste system still prevailing in the society. This story also has a tragic point but overcoming the tragedy and continuing to live by accepting the way it is, is the central idea of the film. …show more content…
The dialogues are direct and uncomplicated and have proved to be very effective. The actors have done justice to their role. Vicky Kaushal (Deepak) in particular has charmed throughout the movie and has shown how potent he is.The director Neeraj Ghaywan has created some best scenes, the one where Deepak throws the ring into the river and dives to fetch it just the moment later and fails to finds it, this scene was a straight forward metaphor and subtly define the psychological shift Deepak goes through. This depiction of the transition is Avant-grade. Also the sound track by Indian Ocean used in the film makes the overall experience richer.
