Coming from a totally different country, my grandparents decided to migrate to the United States to give their six daughters a better life. They started their new life in a town called Watsonville, where the ethnicity is mostly hispanic. Due to the town being surrounded by lots beautiful agriculture farms, it was a big attraction for Mexican immigrants. At a young age, I knew that I wasn’t going to have the same economic help as other American families.
It was a struggle for my mother, a sixteen year old mother, to raise a daughter on her own, so I was raised by my grandparents. They taught me that life is never easy, but you should never give up trying because hard work brings happiness later on. This gave me motivation every morning before going to school.
Watsonville is not like any other city. We have limited resources because of our environment. Most people living in Watsonville come from migrant parents. Farms are mostly raspberries, strawberries, along with lots of vegetables.The agriculture is beautiful. Seeing lots of food and knowing your family and friends play a part in supplying our country with most of it’s fruits is priceless. But college is not a common option that people look forward to everyday. Most children want to be like their parents when they grow up, a “ranchero”. A ranchero is a farmworker. Our generation sees schools as a waste a time because most think there is no way they can afford college.
Often, they drop out because they have to help out their parents with money. Others keep on moving schools and
