The Realm of an Environmental Psychologist The teacher dims the light so the students become less rambunctious. This is an example of the realm environmental scientists patrol. Environmental psychologists have been a discipline for forty years. They can be found in nearly every sub-field of the profession. Environmental psychologists are increasingly at the forefront of the efforts to protect this planet. The process of the career of environmental psychologists include how did they work their way up to this profession, the synopsis of what they do, the geography, and all the ins and outs of this profession. In the field of an environmental psychologist, these professionals are responsible for carrying out certain operations. They study the dynamics of a person in interaction with the environment. Environmental psychologists can use their expertise to evaluate human interactions in a variety of settings; from a workplace, museum, school, prison, city, or natural ecosystem. They may write or publish their research findings. Other environmental psychology researchers spend their time investigating such issues as the effects of sunlight on employee productivity or testing how adding parks and gardens to urban neighborhoods affects children's academic performance Environmental psychologists are dedicated to creating, managing, protecting and restoring environments that promote productive and healthy behaviors. Their challenge is to find ways to change people's behaviors to fix the problems. The geography of environmental psychologists makes it very engaging for those professionals and all others interested in this profession. They may work for a single employer, or various employers throughout their career. They may work in an academic setting such as a university. Environmental psychologists also have the opportunity to work for government agencies, for the private sector such as businesses, and for non profit organizations. A lot of the work done by them is completed outdoors. Academic jobs for environmental psychologists are hard to come by. For environmental psychologists, there is a high demanding level of education required for this profession. There is an educational process that one must go through if they wish to become an environmental psychologist. You should complete your bachelors degree in a field such as environmental psychology. Next step is to complete your masters degree in environmental studies. The final step is to complete your doctoral degree in environmental psychology. Students should pursue additional course work in subjects such as environmental science. Environmental psychologists all have a certain pay range. Salaries will vary depending on what environmental sector they work in. The overall median annual salary for psychologists in research positions, regardless of focus, is $90,000 according to APA's 2007 salary survey.
