The built environment holds tremendous control over the nation’s most prevailing current public health concerns. A critical point when considering the built environment is the effect it has on its residents’ health and also being able to acknowledge that health comprises more than just the absence of an injury of disease. Health also comprises one's state of well-being. Environmental racism is an essential concept that labels environmental activism occurring in minorities and low income communities. It is known as environmental discrimination in which the process of environmental decisions, actions, and policies that result in cases of racial discrimination and the creation of the racial advantages. The interaction of three factors arise this problematic difficulty: “prejudicial belief and behavior, the personal and institutional power to enact policies and actions that reflect one's own prejudices, and privilege, unfair advantages over others and the ability to promote one's group over another” (Advameg, n.d.). …show more content…
