Envy and jealousy both drive ambition. The word "envy" is defined as "painful or resentful awareness of an advantage enjoyed by another joined with a desire to possess the same advantage" (Merriam-Webster). In today's world, almost everyone is trying to obtain something that they want but do not have or striving to accomplish an important goal which classifies as ambition. Being ambitious usually is associated with a positive connotation and is seen as a positive personality trait, but there are times where ambition is caused by envy and jealousy which makes the word have a manipulative and selfish meaning.
