Epidural abscess is a rare condition that is normally preceded by an immunodeficient illness(es) such as diabetes mellitus, alcoholism, and intravenous drug use. This patient suffers from all three as indicated by his toxicology report. He tested positive for methamphetamine, alcohol, marijuana and has a history of diabetes mellitus. Staphylococcus aureus, the bacteria normally found in the flora of the skin is normally the culprit behind the abscess that gains access to the spinal canal either because of a previous sickness, a lowered immune system, a trauma that occurred to the neurological system, or spinal/brain surgery. Once the bacteria S. aureus begins to multiply in the spinal canal it triggers the inflammation response that inflames
