An individual is having troubles with living in a society that thinks as one because he thinks differently. Equality 7-2521 has a gift that no one else has, so in the world he is living in, he is treated differently. As the book introduces Equality 7-2521, it describes him as six feet tall and he wears a bracelet on his left wrist with his name written on it. Equality 7-2521 describes himself as “...we alone who were born with a curse” (Rand, 20). This demonstrates that Equality 7-2521 is “born with a curse.” Curse in this society means something good because Equality 7-2521 is born with intelligence and he wants to rebel against the Palace of World Council for what he believes in. In contrast, the World Council believes in intelligence as a bad thing; that is why the World Council calls him a “Street Sweeper.” As Equality 7-2521 live his life as a Street Sweeper, he has to keep the first mile-post from the Home of the Peasants to the City clean. …show more content…
This shows that he is living in fear and he has no freedom because of the government. He is not living life to it’s fullest; he is living his life under the World Council’s control and laws. He fears the World Council because if he rebels or does something forbidden as a Street Sweeper, the World Council will sentence him to The Palace of Corrective Detention. If he shows that he is smarter than the people in the World Council, then he would be punish. He is not allowed to share his ideas because he is in a lower chair than the World Council. The people in this society live in the world without electricity. As the skies darken, the people have to light a candle to find their way around.
