Despite the injuries and the mental problems, the national football league has added over 30 new innovations to its rulebook in order to keep their players safe, such as, if a player looks concussed a timeout can be called immediately and the kickoff was moved to the 35 yard line from the 30 yard line to prevent dangerous kick returns. As dangerous as football can be, the league has tightened up its policies in order to help prevent injuries. Over the last few years the N.F.L has been getting lower viewership than ever before. This is due to the enormous amount of injuries over that past years. Although people might think that the N.F.L is dying because of the lower viewership, but in fact the lower ratings only motivates the N.F.L to change. In Eric Buchman’s view, “...it’s hard to root for a team when there’s a chance you’re also rooting for a rapist.” By focusing on the rapes and sexual assaults, Buchman overlooks the deeper problem of football. The main problem of football is the long lasting effects of football. According to Marvin Washington, a former N.F.L champion, “The major problem is with chronic traumatic encephalopathy, the brain disorder that is the N.F.L.'s industrial disease.” C.T.E or chronic traumatic encephalopathy has affected way to many former football stars and this needs to change. Therefore the fans and the avid watchers of football need to come together and tell the N.F.L that there is a problem. This can not go on forever and if it does the N.F.L will not exist in the next 50 years. Although C.T.E is one of the biggest problems with football today, I still hold the opinion that football is not ruining players lives, it is providing the life for players that never had
