Many people talk about the social injustice that happens every day, whether it be on the news, face to face, or even from the newspaper. Social injustice is found in everyday life, and can be public or non-public. This year there has been many public cases that have been going viral, and nationally televised which has caused a huge uproar in the United States. One of the biggest incidents that has occurred was the death of Eric Garner by an NYPD police officer who chocked him out in public. This incident that occurred between the NYPD policer officer and the 43 year old Garner began on July 17th, outside of a shop in Staten Island New York. Many cases of Social injustice have been common over the history of time, and has been taking place most recently with this case of Eric Garner getting mistreated by NYPD officers which led to his death. This incident itself reflects that social injustice exists today and needs to be stopped. The police are not allowed to perform chokeholds on a suspect like that especially a man who possessed no harm to the officers and the people around him. The officer who put Garner in the chokehold’s name is Daniel Pantaleo, he told the court that he did not use a chokehold but a takedown method that he was taught at the academy. The man did not have to use the amount of force that he did to take down Garner because he was not fighting back or did not show any signs of aggression. The video shows that Garner was screaming that he couldn’t breathe but officers did nothing to help ease the pain or the grip on Garner and it led to his death (Jareen Imam, CNN, 2014). The aggression that the officer used was more than enough force needed, he gave Garner an unfair and unjust treatment. The fact that Garner is an African American does not make this fair either because if this was a white man being accused the officer would have treated this differently especially if the man was wealthy or a celebrity. If Eric Garner had more money or was famous he would still be here today. The man had been treated unfairly and had been in an incident of social injustice.
