ABSTRACT Cloud computing is defined by Cearly and Phifer in their case study titled “Case Studies in Cloud Computing” as “a style of computing in which scalable and elastic IT-related capabilities are provided ‘ as a service’ to customers using Internet technologies”. Cloud computing services had been provided by major vendors such as Google, Amazon, Microsoft, IBM, Hewlett-Packard, and others for business computing until recently when Apple Corporation announced iCloud for consumers. Therefore, cloud computing is now available for businesses as well as consumers. Read the case study titled, “ Ericsson”, located here, about Ericsson cloud computing.

For this security concern it is advised to, “Ask providers if they will commit to storing and processing data in specific jurisdictions, and whether they will make a contractual commitment to obey local privacy requirements on behalf of their customers” (Brodkin, 2012).
Assess possible scalability, reliability, and cost issues associated with cloud computing, and make suggestions to overcome each of these issues. There are several issues that can adversely impact cloud computing. Scalability can be a major issue. Scalability refers to, “the cloud’s ability to provide applications, processes and media to ever growing numbers of users” (Admin, 2011). There are two forms of scalability, vertical scalability and horizontal scalability. Vertical scalability refers to hardware which includes servers, hard drives, computers, etc. Horizontal scalability refers to the distribution of access points within the system network. To address the problem of scalability, it is best to take a ‘diagonal’ approach. This refers to taking the best solutions to vertical scalability and horizontal scalability. Reliability is a crucial concern to consider. The data stored on the cloud must be accessible whenever it is needed. There can be no room for downtime when running a business. A disaster recovery plan needs to be in place in the case of any emergencies, natural and technical. The
