In tonights seminar we discussed nature and nurture. We also learned the stages of development by Erikson. I for one did not know that we could become negatively impacted even while being in the womb. It makes sense however, If a parent was to use any types of drugs or alcohol you can harm the baby. We learned that nature is our environment around us as well. We discussed the different parenting types. I am more of the stern type of parent. I always want well behaved children.

Discuss cognitive and social development theories, including gender development.
Social and cognitive theories is basically learning from someone else. They observe the other person and learn to repeat what they are doing. Example would be watching someone do a flip and them repeating the action they observed. It is also believed that punishing someone does not have a direct effect on them. It could only make things worse because they did not receive the reinforcement they needed. It also stated that some set goal for themselves and use their behavior to achieve goal through reinforcement. You also some that learn by watching but never acting upon what they learned.
Gender Development, children begin looking at parents and can identify girls or boys, then later children begin to realize that boys will grow up to bed dads and girls will grow up to be moms. Then the last stage is when they fully understand that they are the gender they are for the rest of their live, it is permeant.
