Esperanza Rising is a story about a girl who learns the real hardships and struggles of poverty after a huge tragedy happens in during her life. After the passing of her father, she is weak minded and pessimistic about her new life living in a shared home and working on the fields. As she adapts to her new lifestyle, she sees how cruel people can really be, the injustices, and prejudices that happen during the Great Depression in the 1930's. Towards the end she showed bravery, hope, and even works hard to bring her own grandmother to the United States.
