Many say “Hardship make or break people” and that’s the same thing in the book “Esperanza Rising ” by Pam Munoz Ryan the main character Esperanza has a fairytale life. Her father Sixto is a wealthy landowner in Aguascalientes, Mexico, and Esperanza is his only child. She has fancy dresses, dolls, and all the papaya salad she can eat. Every year after the grape harvest, her parents, grandmother Abuelita, and all the household servants throw her a huge birthday party. When mama had to choose either to flee to America or say to marry papa step brother but mama decided to flee to America with her former servants and with that they left leaving Abuelita behind because of her knee they hope they will all find helpful jobs and that they will all get money to save for Abuelita travel. “But my friends and my school.We can’t just leave! With mama working in the fields a dust storm occurs mama didn’t return to the camp when mama returned she took days off from work and Esperanza realized she was sick she realized mama has valley fever and when the doctor arrives Esperanza was terrified from the doctor's words “if she survives”. And by so mama was sent to the hospital. In only few months she had lost her dad dad her home. And is separated from her mother.” There's a lot of strain on ESperanza from the past months but she take it in and absorb from it. EspeRanza gets a job to support cutting potatoes after she learns how, she needs to do it by herself, the same as when she learns to cook, work and clean everything else. Since the rest of her family work all the time, she is the one that needs to do everything. The money she earns, she converts into money order, to send her grandmother to the group so her mother will get better. She has to do this all on her own, every day. Esperanza learned how to work on her own, and how to take care of the babies on her own. Since she did not know much from the start of her moving, when she learned how to do everything, she had enough money to get her grandmother to come and talk to her mother. After that happened, Isabel still asked her about her life beforehand.
