Imagine being a wealthy farmer, who suddenly experiences a tragedy. You lose family members, and the only home you’ve known is destroyed. In the novel, Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan, Esperanza faces many challenges. Such as, she has to leave Mexico to move to America, She needs to learn how to work, and Mama falls ill. Through overcoming these obstacles, Esperanza learns not to be afraid to start over.
