In the 1800’s, education consisted of primary school and then learning taught a trade. It was common for poor farmers to teach their children about farming. In large towns, where there were more jobs, kids would be taught how to cut lumber, or how to make metal into something useful. Education has changed a lot from what it used to be, and is now focused on preparing students for college. Although education has changed a lot from what it used to be, Middle and

Despite how far schools have come, we still don’t teach everything that is needed for college. Middle and High Schools focus more on preparing students for academic classes and standardized tests, not study skills and time management. The Middle and High Schools should teach study skills and how to properly do “A” work without having to spend a lot of time on homework. They should also teach test taking and note taking strategies so students can get better scores on big tests and get into better schools. Even though schools aren’t perfect, education has changed a lot from the 1800’s to today.
From when things were learned by reciting them, to now, where students can sit in front of a computer and learn much of what they need to know, education has evolved significantly.
Education used to be focused on teaching a skill or trade that would prepare students for a successful career. But currently, a college education is often an essential job requirement.
