When contemplating about whether standardized tests are legit or not students constantly ask themselves, what do these test actually show? That a person can correctly fill in or guess bubbles on a multiple choice or true/false test? Or having the skill of being able to clearly express yourself in writing prompts, with no errors? In all honesty and actuality, standardized tests only prove who is better at test taking, it does nothing to prove someone's intelligence, critical thinking, creativity, or individual strengths and weaknesses. Our nation's schools systems are now get very used to administering standardized tests, resulting in the deterioration of creative and innovative students. Moreover, standardized tests cause teachers to cramp so much information into us students which in the end can cause much stress for us and may even lead to future depression or anxiety. Furthermore, standardized test are extremely expensive and on top of that, they aren't even that effective and reliable. Why should our government waste so much money? Many may argue that standardized tests are the way of accessing a student's intelligence. However, I go against this claim and I believe that standardized tests are useless and that they should be removed; due to the fact that they are a terrible way of measuring people capabilities. I totally disagree against this claim because there is no proof showing that this is true. However, there is proof that shows how standardized tests actually haven't helped the achievement of students in testing. According to the WashingtonPost, "US slipped from 18th in the world in math on the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) to 31st place in 2009, with a similar drop in science and no change in reading." This shows the extent of the damage done by standardized tests; it saddens me to see that we are still constantly using
