Essay Comparing Huckleberry Finn And To Kill A Mockingbird

I believe the characters Huck Finn and Jim from the novel, “The Adventures of Huckleberry and Finn”, written by Mark Twain are very similar to the characters Scout and Jem from the novel “To Kill a Mocking Bird, written by Harper Lee. Huck Finn was a 13 year old boy who lived with his father above the Mississippi River. He was a intelligent kind boy and was caring for others. Huck had a rough life at home because his father was nothing but a drunk. Throughout the story he is very influenced by his friends. He attempts to join a gang but wasn’t able to. One day Huck finally grew tired of his abusive father and faked his own death and ran away. He ran away and found an abandoned boat and that’s where he saw Jim. Jim was a slave for Miss Watson. In his life he longed for freedom and a family. One day Miss Watson had threatened him and said she was going to sell him to the south so he ran away. He became very good friends with Huck and they had learned to trust each other. Due to the fact Jim was a runaway black slave he was mostly in danger for the whole story and often forced into ridiculous situations. The next character I’m going to discuss is Jean Louise Scout Finch. She was a young girl that lived with her father and her brother in Calpurnia, Maycomb. Scout is a kind hearted person and is constantly tested by the hatred and prejudice in her town. She lives in a time era where racism was still a very large issue. The next character from the novel “To Kill A Mockingbird “is Jeremy Atticus Finch better known as Jem. He was a young boy 4 years older than his sister Scout, but he was the American Boy who wanted to play football. In the begging of the story it explains how close the both of them are but by the end of the story he had grown apart from her.
