Children and adults all over the world spend an extensive amount of time reading fiction. People see this as having a positive outcome on our lives and other not so much. Robert Penn Warren argues that people read fiction “to satisfy our deepest need—the need of feeling our life to be, in itself significant. “ Throughout the fiction novels, “Lord of the Flies” and “A Separate Peace” our lives feel more noteworthy for multiple reasons. Throughout the two pieces, the reader has the ability to form their own personal judgement based on the situation. In Lord of the Flies, people have the ability to choose who they think is in the right and in the wrong. Fiction gives them the resources to have their own thoughts and feelings about something without being judged. We become connected to the characters and their exhilarating lives bring us fascination. For example, there is a sense of adventure we get from “Lord of the Flies” which sparks something in our own life. We begin to seek out more adventurous task in our day to day life. This brings forth new experiences that we would not have if it hadn’t been for the urge brought up from the novel. The conflict in “A separate Peace” stimulates the need for competitiveness and rivalry in our own life. Instead of getting that adrenaline rush from starting an argument with your best friend, you can get the same feeling by reading this novel. This limits the amount of disputes in our own life which helps live a more productive
