The people, cultures, historical events, and repercussions are what make the Arkansas-Discovery and Exploration such a fascinating topic to research. The impact made on the Arkansas-Discovery and Exploration is what led us to the people we are today. The discovery and exploration of Arkansas began when Europeans first entered. It has been said that the first explorer to enter was Hernando de Soto’s Spanish armed forces. Although it has been debated by several scholars, de Soto’s recent mapping has shown where his expedition began in northern Arkansas and eventually headed towards the southeast. One event that took place that is considered historical is the discovery of the very first settlement. The first settlement founded was Arkansas Post. This settlement was served mainly as a trading post. A couple short term repercussions during the discovery and exploration of Arkansas were settlers developing a type of disease, killing their own natives in battles, and overworking during the exploration which eventually led to starvation. The long term repercussion of the discovery and exploration of Arkansas were the effect on the language used, the customs that were made, and the religion that changed. The discovery and exploration of Arkansas means so much to us today. If it would not have been for the very first explorers and settlers, we could possibly not be considered the state of Arkansas. The many cultures that came over during the discovery and exploration are what make Arkansas a diverse state. The long term repercussions have greatly impacted us today. The customs that were brought over are still continuing to change and develop over time. Religion is another long term repercussion that means a lot to us today.
