Atticus Finch is Jem and Scout's father, a lawyer in Maycomb, Alabama. Atticus has done his best to try to implant into his children a sense of morality and to treat everyone fairly. He is one of a handful of people in the town of Maycomb who is against racial injustice,and is one of the main character's in Harper Lee’s, To Kill a Mockingbird. He agrees to defend Tom Robinson, a black farmhand accused of assaulting a white woman.Atticus has his own strongly held morals,ideals, and sense of justice. Atticus Finch is moral lawyer, a dedicated caring father,who tries his best to guide his children, and a good citizen.Finch is regarded highly by most of the fellow members of his community,and the lie about Mr.Ewell is justifiable.

He teaches Scout not to ridicule Walter Cunningham when he shows his different eating habits.. Atticus is kind to everyone, even Bob Ewell . When Ewell spits in Atticus face and tells Atticus he will kill him, Atticus chooses to take it with a smile rather than fight. All this he does to teach his kids to walk away from a fight and only place your foot down for the right cause. In To Kill a Mockingbird Atticus does his best to offer his children moral guidance.Like when he tells them, “shoot all the blue jays that you want, but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird” (103). This lesson is to tell them not to harm anything that is good, but it has the same message as when Atticus tells Jem that courage is not a man holding a gun.
