To achieve my goals of becoming a pediatric nurse I realize there are many things to be done. Throughout high school, I was always confused on what I was called to be when I grew older, but I always had a feeling it was going to be involved with science. Now I know the career I will strive for in my future, and I have put all of my hard work into following that career path. My life experiences have been centered around the hospital. At a young age, my mom got bitten by a mosquito carrying the West Nile virus. This virus usually doesn’t majorly affect the person bitten, however, my mom ended up being in the hospital for six weeks. She came out paralyzed in her left leg. This involves taking care of children ages 5-11 after school by helping them with their homework and watching them go outside and play. The little kids are always getting hurt, and I am the employee who volunteers to step up to help. Although I mostly deal with only cuts and sickness, this job had taught me that I would love to learn more about injuries and illnesses and how to resolve them. In my future, I plan to volunteer at a hospital and possibly intern at one. I will strive to find an internship at a hospital to learn more into my future career. I will try to find a pediatric nurse I can shadow to follow alongside them as they work. I plan to do this after my freshman year, giving me a year to get situated into school. I believe going to the hospital and watching the units work together will help prepare me for my future career. My past experiences have influenced me into wanting to become a pediatric nurse. They have pushed me to reach my goals by working hard. My previous and current classes are centered around learning more about science and math, but most importantly the human body. I believe the activities I have been involved in, such as my job, has helped me gain a small perspective on what my possible future career will involve.
