Bosnian Genocide

The bosnian genocide was initiated due to ethnic differences in Srebrenica and Zepa. The bosnian serb forces in 1995 began an “ethnic cleanse” which resulted in the death Bosnian Muslim men and children. Bosnian Serbs targeted Muslim Bosniaks and Bosnian Croats. The ethnic cleansing included resulted in murder, rape, unlawful confinement, sexual assault, robbery and many more illegal activities.

The foundation of this war originated from the partition of the Republic of Yugoslavia in the 1980's. Emergency began in Yugoslavia with the debilitating of the comrade government toward the end of the Cold War. They began to attack Bosniak dominated towns and so the “ethnic cleansing” began.

Bosnian government forces attempted to defend against the army but was unsuccessful in the majority of their operations. All hope had appeared to be lost when the United Nations refused to intervene in the conflict, however humanitarian aid was provided to those who were injured and malnourished.

By 1995 the Serb forces had advanced on Srebrenica and although the U.N had finally intervened by this time they were overwhelmed by the advance. Serb forces separated the Bosniaks putting the women on busses sending them to Bosnian held territory where some of them were raped or sexually assaulted, while the men and boys were either murdered immediately or put on busses to mass killing sites.
