The world has changed a lot in the past few millennia, technology has grown at a phenomenal rate, bringing humanity to heights previously unthinkable, and we went from the wright brothers’ first flight to landing on the moon in 50 years. The population of the world has exploded from only 300 million at 0 B.C. to a whopping seven and a half billion. 23 times what it once was. Advances in communications technology means that almost the entire planet is connected in some way. Yet some things don’t change. We had such high hopes for science, it promised to fix all the world’s problems. Money can’t buy happiness, good looks and health fade, being smart won’t bring fulfillment, grades become less and less important, and following the rules to the letter won’t bring salvation. That’s not to say it’s bad to be rich, or healthy, good looking or smart, or that one should break the laws, they are all good things, but they are not the most important. But they are not the most important, and they will not always last. Trying times can cost you your wealth and health, accidents can rob you of your looks. Minds dull, and eventually get surpassed by the next genius. And sooner or later you will break some law, no matter how small, or you may have misunderstood the point of those laws. Following the letter of them, and not the spirit. And yet, even in the darkest of times, hope persists, faith lives, and love thrives. They can’t be killed, even if you break their spirits, and their bodies, people can still have this. Because they endure past all
