In 1688 during the time of Britain’s rule on North American colonies, a historic event took place in the colonies called the Glorious Revolution. This event took place in a time where the colonist were under the rule of King James the second. The colonist saw King James the second as an oppressor as he unfairly overtaxed the colonist and gave them no say in the tax laws. In 1688 King James was overthrown because the British parliamentary did not want a Catholic to rule.

This event was not necessarily a conflict but it had a huge impact on the colonists. The enlightenment era was a time where there was an enormous change in beliefs as people started to leave religion and tradition behind and they began to move to reason and logical thinking. Enlightenment philosophers such as John Locke who believed in a state ruled by the people, or self-government. These enlightenment ideas such as natural rights, self-government and political rights got to the colonists as they were being oppressed. This event was a huge component to the revolution as the colonists began to embrace this new way of thinking. Out of all these events, I believe that the enlightenment had the biggest effect on the colonists. This showed them a new way of thinking, and it really woke up many of them because they were in a time where the British were harshly treating them. These Ideas showed them that they could change the situation they’re in and that is exactly what they did. The American Revolution took place and the colonists fought the unjust British.
