During World War Two approximately 60 million people were killed.The award winning film, Casablanca, directed by Michael Curtiz, shows clear corroboration of how bad the war was during the early 1940’s. Actors Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart played very key roles as Rick Blaine and Ilsa Lund in connecting the viewers with the movie. The film, released in 1942 won awards for best picture, best director, and best writing. This movie is very clear about its anti-Nazi theme. The love shared between the main characters Lund and Blaine shows the pain these people were suffering, because of the Germans. It is a symbol of what these people and their nation stands for. An example of the anti-Nazi propaganda was when they were in Blaine's nightclub. The Germans began to sing their national anthem. When this happened then the French began to start singing theres “La Marseillaise” The French singing overrode the Germans. The French's anthem does not just represent the French it represents freedom` for all. While the Germans is dark and surrounded by fascism and death. This was propaganda for pro-America and anti-Germany because these people were singing about freedom which is what America represents and opposing what Germany is for.This made the Germans angry. They feared that this would inspire more people to rebel against them. This caused Major Strasser to demand that Captain Renault shut down Blaine's night club.The German official shut the club down because they were angry about the national anthem. They had to to ponder a reason to shut down the club. When Renault told people to leave, Blaine questioned his reasoning. Renault claimed that he is “shocked to find that gambling is going on in here”(CITATION)! As this conversation is happening the man running gambling came to Renault handing him money, and informing him that he was winning. This shows how hypocritical the Germans were. They did things only for their benefit. They had no good reason to shut down the club, infact they were partaking in the activities in which they claimed were the reason for closing the
