Just by waking up early for school can have a major or even deadly effect on your life. Changing school start times will have a majorly substantial effect on students.Start times need to be delayed to benefit the students. Along with the drowsy crashes a number of other consequences come with schools early start times. Over 50% of children under the age of eighteen complain about being tired during the school day. Because of having to wake up so early kids don't get enough sleep to last the full day.15% of parents said they would fall asleep during school. Start times for some schools have been too early for ages causing even your parents to admit to falling asleep during the school day. Another consequence for school start times is putting kids and teens at a risk of injury. In a 2012 study of LA middle- and high-school athletes, studies found that getting less than 8 hours of sleep was the strongest predictor of injury in student athletes. Getting later start times for school is not only important for students sleep but, it is essential to students safety too. I disagree, having schools start later can actually help save money! With boosting students attendance by 1% district wide it can bring in an added on $40 million per year. Saving money is important to any school so the reality of changing the start times seems very promising. The other side also says that having a delayed start to the day would interfere with after school activities,dinner, ect. But with all of the health benefits that it comes with, pushing back after school activity times doesn’t seem so challenging after
