In the romance, “Sir Gawin and the Green Knight”, author Pearl Poet wrote about chivalrous acts that are displayed in today’s society. Within this romance, there are many tenets that represent code of chivalry. Four of these tenets are fellowship, purity, courtesy, and compassion. In today’s society, code of chivalry is still shown through many people. Code of chivalry came about in the year 1066. Each day since then, code of chivalry has been performed. Code of chivalry is ones’ standards of behavior. This behavior was first invented for men to follow. This act can be shown in many different aspects. Over the years, the main ideas of code of chivalry have changed but for the most part, the main concepts have stayed the same. In today’s society, both men and women show chivalrous acts. Seven modern codes of chivalry are courage, justice, mercy, generosity, faith, nobility, and hope. Within today’s society, there are many different places code of chivalry take place. One of the most common places is in the church house. At churches, code of chivalry is performed a lot without people even realizing it. Men often are very respectful to women while in a relationship with them. Men show generosity to women through their actions toward them such as opening the door for them or paying for their dinner. Within relationships, there is faith and hope from both men and women. To maintain a healthy relationship, each individual needs to be true to one another.
