The American society is excessively competitive and certainly does rely on winning at all costs. It affects the American citizens and even the rest of the world greatly. America is, in fact, tearing itself apart; whilst also ruining people’s lives and even the environment. There are many reasons for this and many ways that it is occurring. America is certainly first in the space race, arms race, and business race; but, the country is also first in the world for gun violence, obesity, divorce and homelessness. Competition outside the country is what affects the competition in the country.

One main problem, a problem that should come to mind quickly, is food. Restaurants that sell fast food, and sometimes even those that don’t, are in great competition. A basic summary of the logic behind this would be that each one tries to be better than the others. They all sell the same basic food; yet each has a unique theme. One restaurant will create a special recipe or something that is special to their menu. Then, soon after, the other restaurants will do the same, because they know that their food is now ever so slightly inferior to that of the restaurant with the special. Amongst all the competition, some businesses will fail and people will lose jobs. The business owners and such will not care about the lower workers. Without jobs these people will lose their homes. And there are and will be millions of people left on the street, with nowhere to go. They become sick and unloved. This causes a great health problem even for others. People will complain about it. Homeless people get arrested and in trouble for trying to scavenge food. Sleeping in subways and on the street. They also play a huge role in littering and other pollution.
