At this time in our society a college education is no longer an option or privilege, but rather a necessity. We grow up getting told by parents and teachers that college is the right path in life. There is a saying that says "if you think education is expensive, try ignorance." (Unknown) You are comparing the expense of education to the expense of not having an education (ignorance), and thus implying that what you lose by not having an education is far more significant than what you have to pay to get the education. A college education is important to ensure a good job and gain work and life skills.

The most common reason for going to college is, of course, to get a good job. You will obviously make better money. Most people say that having student debt is reasonable if it leads to a better paying job. By going to college, we are able to gain academic knowledge in order to succeed in the future. Imagine if you are applying for a job and they turn you down due to the reason of not having the proper schooling? Large majorities say they are more likely to consider a job candidate who has a college degree versus someone with a high …show more content…
Considering that after leaving college, you have a 50/50 chance at getting a job that requires a degree, it is totally reasonable to question if higher education is the best place to invest your money. Not to mention, student debt is a lot to worry about. Whether your student debt will ruin your life or you don’t have to worry about your debt, there are other paths that are just as good. School work leads to stress and distracts you from your main goal. Whereas there are many great jobs that don’t require a college degree. Tons of self-made billionaires abandoned their college educations in the pursuit of greater things. For example, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg.
