Decisions that are made today will help shape the future of tomorrow. People must put the time and effort into learning about the current events that are happening in our society. For example, this year’s presidential election has appealed to the younger generation more than other other election has. I am interested in this race because I know that whoever wins the election will have a big impact on my life and many others. I want to make sure that I am well informed about each position that all the candidates are taking. Even though Hillary Clinton and Ted Cruz won the Iowa Caucus, Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders were very close behind Cruz and Clinton. These types of events causes Americans to take precautions in ensuring their safety such as reporting suspicious behavior and being more aware of their surroundings. We must learn from other countries solutions to obstacles in order to make America a better place. Current events are helping people realize the problems occurring in America. Police brutality has been a big topic when it comes to their actions towards African Americans. Laquan McDonald was shot 16 times by Jason Van Dyke before another police officer knocked the gun out of Dyke’s hand. Eric Garner was an unarmed male who was put in a chokehold because he was selling cigarettes. Garner said he could not breathe 11 times, but it did not matter because he was already dead when the officer released his grip. These type of current events sparked peaceful marches and conjured up the Black Lives Matter movement.
