Edward Scissorhands hit theaters in 1990. The film features stars such as Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder. The main character, Edward, is an unfinished creation of an imaginative scientist. Before passing away, this scientist slowly teaches Edward how to act as a loving and caring human as he creates human-like body parts for Edward. Unfortunately before death, the scientist had not given Edward human-like hands, and he was stuck with larger scissors attached acting like sharp fingers. With a lack of common sense and people skills, Edward enters into the town at the bottom of his haunted looking hill and experiences the life below. Even adults may enjoy the charming and brilliant film. The film addresses the audience with the character of Edward and his love story. Pathos in the film gave the audience an argument by creating an emotional response throughout the film. The writer uses dark colors to help the audience know who the outsiders are and used dim lighting to give an isolated and lonely vide for the audience.
Edward Scissorhands shows that it is better to be different. Being different doesn’t separate us from others but gives us our independence. Being different is ok, being different is better, but in the eyes of those that are different it may not seem better to them. Edward trying to fit into society was unknown and new to him. He had been living on his own until a lady named Peg welcomes him into her home.
The issues at stake is how will Edward be able to love Kim when having scissor as hands? The film shows the romance between Edward and Peg’s daughter, Kim. Their relationship starts in a comical way when Kim returns home early from a camping trip and Edward is staying in her room. When Kim enters her bedroom, Edward stays silent as he lays in her bed skittish because of how beautiful he thinks that Kim is. When Kim notices Edward she screams and Edward tries to get out of her waterbed but ends up poking numerous holes with his hands making water spray everywhere.
