What Is Fatigued Driving?

Fatigued driving is defined as the operation of a vehicle while impaired by a lack of sleep. Fatigued driving is also referred to as drowsy driving. Some of the warning signs of drowsy driving include repeatedly yawning, daydreaming, feeling restless, daydreaming and drifting from lane to lane.

Commercial Drivers And Fatigued Driving

Commercial drivers are at a greater risk for driving while fatigued. They often work long hours without any sleep. The Federal Motor Safety Carrier Safety Administration has put restrictions on the number of hours that commercial drivers can drive per day. However, many drivers are still getting less than five hours of sleep per night.
