Shakespeare's most famous play “Romeo and Juliet” is a tragic story about love and loss between two “star crossed lovers”. It all takes place in Verona, Italy. In this novel there are tons of surprises and a huge plot twist at the end that keeps everyone wondering what made Shakespeare come up with this interesting yet unique ending. Since he came up with most of the English words we use today, the way he translates his words and uses his language to convey love and loss is very realistic and descriptive. In act 3 scene 3 of Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare uses similes/metaphors, figurative language and word choice to convey Romeo’s emotions and reactions towards the loss of his love Juliet.

In this passage, Shakespeare uses similes and metaphors to show how Romeo has lost his love Juliet. Friar Lawrence is describing for Romeo about how he feels “Like power in a skilless soldier’s flask” (3.3.132) .This means that you are blown to bits by that which should defend you from any harm. Starting off with Friar using the same word repeatedly “Unseemly woman in a seeming man!” (3.3.112) and “or ill-beseeming beast in seeming both”(3.3.113) Shakespeare using the word “seem” repeatedly shows how Romeo’s confusion on how Juliet “died”. Friar then continues to comfort Romeo again by telling him that Juliet’s in heaven now “ Since birth, and heaven, and earth all three do meet” (3.3.120) That means that from the time you're born onto this earth you will be entering the gates of heaven.
