Gilgamesh The Hero

What is a hero? A hero is defined as “a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities”, but it is so much more than that. There are three main actions that makes someone a hero. Heroes should portray many different traits, or actions such as courage, humility, and perseverance and a great example is Gilgamesh The first action a hero portrays is courage. The second is humility. The third action is that heroes have to be able to persevere.
Being courageous is a very important part of being a hero. Courage is used as strength in the face of grief, pain or hardship. This is vitally important for heroes because

Humility is the ability to show a lack of false pride. This means that if you have the ability to be humble you will not have an inflated ego. This is extremely important because heroes do many, many great things but if this gets to their heads it can mean their end. Heroes may not always be humble but eventually they learn the lesson of being humble. Gilgamesh shows how he finds his humility after having his ego grow to big in the book The Epic of Gilgamesh. “And why should not my checks be starved and my face drawn? Despair is in my heart and my face is the face of one who has made a long journey, it was burned with heat and with cold. Why should I not wander over the pasture in search of the wind?”- The Epic of Gilgamesh (27). This citing comes after Gilgamesh undergoes his quest for eternal life but is coming up short and at that moment he realizes he is going to die just like any other man and will not be able to live for ever. This shows humility because he is letting go of his hubris, a trait he has in abundance compared to humility, to accept that fact that in the end he is no different than any other man.
