Studies show that more than 30,000 Americans are killed each year due to firearms (“Gun Violence Statistics”). Although this may be true, adding more strict gun control laws would most likely not help decrease the number of the deaths and accidents each year. The United States should not put more gun control laws in place because the 2nd amendment protects our right to own guns, more laws doesn’t reduce the crime rates, and it does not prevent suicide and gun accidents. Since 1971 the 2nd amendment has been put in place. This amendment states that the right to bear arms shall not be infringed (Brooks, Chad). Each year in America, 30,000 suicide deaths occur using a gun (“Gun and Suicide: A fatal Link”). I believe this number could decrease if those people got the help they need instead of taking their own lives. Along with suicide comes the subject of gun accidents. More people need to be educated about guns and the safety that guns involve. Instead of the government increasing the number of laws for guns, they should enforce people to become well educated on guns so that they can have weapons to protect themselves but also know that guns needed to be treated with respect as well. When guns aren’t used in the proper way, many problems arise with safety and this is the major issue. These are just a few reasons of why increasing the number of gun control laws does not help prevent suicide and gun accidents.
In conclusion, an increase in gun control laws should not happen in the United States because, the 2nd amendment protects our right to own guns, more laws doesn’t reduce the crime rates, and it does not prevent suicide and gun accidents. Society would be a more comfortable and safe place without the restriction of guns. Americans would all have the right to protect themselves from
