There is a major problem with homelessness among veterans. The very big problem all together, but veterans are a very important symbol of America and they need to be honored as one. The numbers are high due to a big unemployment crisis as well as an addiction crisis. Some of the problem is veterans who have disabilities, such as PTSD’s and other forms of disabilities. Sometimes veterans have been away from society to long and can’t adjust to normal life. The stress of being in the military takes a toll on ones mind. The disabled and the people below the poverty line are the ones more at risk and the majority of the homeless. The VA or veterans association is doing some work to help the vets in need. They have made only a small dent in the prevention of becoming homeless and helping the homeless get back on there feet. Different awareness and community volunteer programs have been set in motion. The numbers of homeless are escalating rapidly. Only 8% of people in America are homeless. While 17% of the homeless are actually vets. Veterans are around 50% more likely to be homeless because of the poverty level, lack of jobs and a poor system of support networks. If the certain disorder is conflicting with their work environment then that could seriously injure ones income. PTSD’s is a common and serious mental disorder. (Stein 110). It is a mental disorder caused by the stress of being in-action. The symptoms are nightmares, not being able to concentrate, irritability, and gruesome flashbacks to the battlefield. Other common injuries are limb loss. Life is very hard to adjust to if you lose a limb. You have to learn to live all over again. If the person cannot find a job that is do able for them then they have to apply for unemployment and once again enter the
