As a leader, it is better to be loved by your follower. In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, there is two opposite type of leaders in it. Ralph, as a peaceful, democratic leader in his team, and Jack, he usually solves problem roughly by force without neither carefully thinking or discussion with his team. At the middle of the novel, once Jack went to against Ralph’s place of leader, no one supports him at that moment since people trust and rely on Ralph, but, for Jack, people just have fear. Individuals in this society will always respect and follow the leader who be loved rather than the leader who be feared.

Rules is a necessary part of a normal society; it is the base of all action, without this, it is hard to be a leader. All the kids meet together on the island, they found out that they on a sea island without any other people, and far away from civilization. Hands up.” Jack do not want to follow Ralph anymore since he thinks Ralph is just a phrasemonger, so he tries to ask people to impeach Ralph, but boys around Jack, “who had frozen, under the palms there was deadly silence… most of the boys were looking down now, at the grass or their feet.” (ch.7 pg.182,183) At this moment, all of them had already spent an extended time together on this. Although Jack does not want to follow Ralph anymore and try to make the change in this society, finally, this revolution failed. This result since Ralph show his respect and wisdom to their mates, get the trust and confidence from them, he is a sincere, Straightforward people with good leadership.
