The Best Day of My LPN Life Being an LPN is much more than a career, it’s a commitment. LPNs have to love what they do because this career affects us every hour of the day. We become emotionally connected to our patients, we form a bond with them. Therefore, we think about them even when we are off of the clock. It took a lot of hard work, dedication, and many sacrifices to get to where we are now. Our patients make every sacrifice worth it. Our journey begins with the decision to dedicate and commit ourselves to this career. To be can advocate the LPN must support their client’s beliefs and rights. To be a consultant, you must communicate with other members of the health care team to create an effective plan of care. To be a counselor, you must be a listener. Listen to the client when they are going through rough transitions- such as when they are diagnosed with a terminal disease or treatment options. To be an educator, you must encourage your clients to ask questions. Make sure they understand what they have just been taught. Patient education is important and vital. To be a manager, manage the patient’s education and the effectiveness of the care plan provided for them. To be a clinician you must have good technical skills. This is the actual nursing care. Correct nursing care is vital. To be a researcher, research a medication’s contingencies, side effects, and so forth. If a problem arises that you are not familiar with, do research to find a solution. To be a collaborator, again work with the healthcare team. Share information and be a team player.
